    Training

    Training is essential for enhancing disaster preparedness of the institutions and community to cope up with the disasters. It provides the skills and knowledge needed for effective emergency response. It ensures everyone knows their roles and responsibilities, making communities more resilient against disasters. In pursuit of these objectives, the Maharashtra State Disaster Management Authority and District Disaster Management Authorities carry out training activities of different stakeholders from time to time.

    IDRN and NDMIS training 2024

    As per the directions of the State Disaster Management Authority, Maharashtra, Department of Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation, Government of Maharashtra and the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Government of Maharashtra jointly organized the training programme on ‘India Disaster Resource Network (IDRN) व National Disaster Management Information System (NDMIS)’ for the concerned officers of Kokan, Nashik and Pune division. The trainees were provided with information and training on the use, benefits and related technologies of IDRN and NDMIS.

    Training Program Conducted on Hospital Disaster Management Plan in Sindhudurg District

    On 23rd and 24th January 2023, the ‘Hospital Disaster Management Plan Training Program’ was organized jointly by the District Disaster Management Authority, District Collector’s Office, Sindhudurg and District Hospital Sindhudurg. Colonel (Retd) V.N. Supnekar, former Director, Disaster Management Centre, Yashda, Pune guided the Medical officers and staff that were present for the training program. The training provided information on the need for a Hospital Disaster Management Plan, the various steps involved in preparing a plan, the usefulness of the Hospital Disaster Management Plan during emergencies, fire in hospitals, evacuation plans for hospitals, emergency control rooms, rapid response teams and other related matters.

    Hands-on Training program conducted by DDMA Kolhapur

    In a training program jointly conducted by the District Disaster Management Authority, Kolhapur District and N. D. R. F., Aapada Mitra and Aapada Sakhi were trained in boat navigation to enhance local capacity for flood response. Taking an active part in the disaster management activities of Kolhapur district, Aapda Mitra and Aapda Sakhi provided training on disaster management to NCC students from various colleges and police personnels of the district in the following period.

    Disaster Management Awareness conducted by DDMA Jalna

    Disaster Management Awareness Programme was organized by District Disaster Management Authority, Jalna District in the riverside villages of Godavari, Purna, Dhamna, Raighol, Kelna, Kal etc. in the district. In this, training on disaster management has also been provided to the citizens at the village level as well as officers/employees of various agencies. Also, during the training, first aid information booklets and brochures on do’s and don’ts for various disasters were distributed.

    Training Program on “Disaster Management for Talathi and Circle Officers”, 29th February to 1st March 2024

    Department of Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation, Government of Maharashtra organized a residential training program on “Disaster Management for Talathi and Circle Officers” held at Marathwada Mahsool Prashikshan Probodhini, Chatrapati Sambhajinagar from 29th February to 1st March 2024. The training program was critical to build the capacities of Talathi and Circle Officers considering their integral role in the entire disaster management cycle, from preparedness and response to recovery, reconstruction, and risk reduction. The training program included engaging workshops, interactive discussions, and practical exercises, where participants delved into various aspects of disaster preparedness, mitigation, and risk reduction, focusing on integrating Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and climate actions into development planning and program implementation.

    Training of stakeholders on “Relevance of Sexual and Reproductive Health in Disasters” in Solapur District

    In 2024, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in Solapur collaborated with the Family Planning Association (FPA) and the Indian Red Cross Society to conduct a series of training events on the “Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for Sexual and Reproductive Health in Disasters.” These training sessions were held from June to September 2024 and involved a variety of stakeholders, including medical officers, healthcare staff, and representatives from non-governmental organizations. Each training session included multiple components, such as an overview of disaster management on both global and national levels, the significance of sexual and reproductive health during disasters, and the MISP framework related to sexual and reproductive health. Additionally, a representative from the Indian Red Cross Society conducted a practical demonstration on first aid.

    Disaster Management Awareness Activities for Youth on the occasion of International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction

    The Solapur District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) carried out awareness activities at various locations in Solapur district during the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) 2024. Commemorating the occasion, the DDMA, in partnership with the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI), Solapur Branch and Ikon College of Fire Engineering & Safety Management, Solapur, conducted these sessionsto orient and build the capacities of Solapur’s youth regarding disaster management. The topics such as Basic concepts of Disaster Management, Institutional Arrangements of Disaster Management, Role of Youth and Civic/ Emergency Services in Disaster Management, Dos and Don’ts in various disasters, Popularization of Disaster Management Apps such as SACHET, Mausam, Damini, Bhookamp, etc., Communication Strategies in Disaster Management, and Fire Safety Demonstration were covered in the sessions.
