    Review Meeting on Maharashtra’s Monsoon Preparedness 2026

    A high-level review meeting on Maharashtra’s preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season was held under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Chief Minister at Sahyadri State Guest House, Malabar Hill, Mumbai, on 22 May 2026.

    The meeting was convened to review the preparedness of key State departments, district administrations, municipal bodies, central agencies, infrastructure agencies and emergency response forces ahead of the monsoon season. The review focused on ensuring coordinated planning, effective response mechanisms and readiness across the State for possible monsoon-related emergencies.

    During the meeting, the India Meteorological Department presented the monsoon forecast for 2026. Preparedness briefings were also presented by the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Department of Telecommunications, Central Railway, Western Railway, Konkan Railway, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Mumbai Port Trust, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, other Municipal Corporations, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority and all Divisional Commissioners.

    The review covered key areas including district-level preparedness, emergency response systems, inter-departmental coordination, communication networks, flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, urban flooding preparedness, transport and railway readiness, port and coastal safety, health system preparedness and continuity of essential services during heavy rainfall situations.

    Senior officials from Revenue, Home, Public Works, Transport and Ports, Energy, Urban Development, Tourism, Food and Civil Supplies, Water Resources, Rural Development, Water Supply and Sanitation, Soil and Water Conservation, Public Health, Environment, Agriculture, Police, Fire Services and other concerned departments participated in the review.

    The Hon’ble Chief Minister directed all departments and district administrations to remain fully prepared for the monsoon season and ensure close coordination between State, district and local-level response systems. He further directed that all pending monsoon preparedness works should be completed within the next 15 days.

    The meeting also emphasized the need for pan-Maharashtra integration of services across all key stakeholders. The use of emerging technologies, including AI-based models and AI-enabled call receiving and dispatch support systems, was discussed to improve coordination, response time and citizen service delivery during emergency situations.

    The Hon’ble Minister for Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Ministers, senior officials of concerned departments, representatives of central agencies and senior officers from emergency response agencies were present at the meeting.

    The Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation Department is undertaking necessary measures to strengthen preparedness, coordination and response systems for the ensuing monsoon season across Maharashtra.
