The Government of Maharashtra has envisioned the Konkan Mitigation Project to address risks from hazards such as cyclones, floods, landslides, high tides of the sea, etc., in five coastal districts of the Konkan region (Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg). The project undertakes comprehensive structural mitigation measures such as the construction of Saline Embankments, Anti Sea-Erosion Bunds, Underground Cabling, Multipurpose Cyclone Shelters and Landslide Protection Works to reduce the impacts and risk from the hazards and vulnerabilities affecting the region.
These interventions have been developed in line with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Mitigation guidelines to reduce the loss of life and damage to property. These projects will help build the disaster resilience of people in coastal Maharashtra.
